Firmware
Open Source & Licensing
Which Attaky firmware are ports of open-source projects, and under what licenses.
Some Attaky firmware is written in-house; others are ports of open-source projects — where the whole firmware is Attaky's adaptation of an upstream project to Attaky hardware. This page covers the ports and their licenses.
In-house firmware may still use open-source libraries, but it isn't a port of an upstream project and isn't listed here.
How each port is distributed — including whether it is offered on the Firmware Store — follows the terms of its upstream license.
| Firmware | Attaky source | Upstream project | License |
|---|---|---|---|
| Meshtastic | Attaky-Module/meshtastic-firmware | meshtastic/firmware | GPL-3.0 |
| MeshCore | Attaky-Module/MeshCore | meshcore-dev/MeshCore | MIT |
| FM/AM Radio | Attaky-Module/TEF6686_ESP32 | PE5PVB/TEF6686_ESP32 | GPL-3.0 |
| Retro-Go | Attaky-Module/retro-go (overlay) | ducalex/retro-go | GPL-2.0 |
What this means
- Full-source GPL ports (Meshtastic, FM/AM Radio) — Attaky publishes the full corresponding source, as the GPL requires.
- MIT port (MeshCore) — Attaky also publishes its port's full source; MIT permits more flexible reuse than the GPL.
- Retro-Go (GPL-2.0) — Attaky's repository is an overlay: it carries Attaky's board target and patches and pulls upstream Retro-Go from the upstream project as a submodule.
- Emulator cores bundled in Retro-Go may carry their own licenses — see the upstream project for details.
Each port is offered only in keeping with its license, and some licenses may limit how a build is distributed.
