Expand: LoRa / GPS 1.0
Long-range LoRa radio and GPS in one Expand module — the heart of an off-grid mesh communicator.
Expand: LoRa / GPS 1.0 gives a Core long-range radio and location at the same time: a sub-GHz LoRa link for sending messages kilometers without any cell tower or Wi-Fi, and a GPS receiver so each node knows where it is. It's the module that turns a Core into an off-grid communicator, and it anchors the Mesh series.

Radio, GPS, antennas, and the connector map are on the LoRa / GPS datasheet.
On board
- A long-range LoRa radio for sub-GHz, low-power messaging over kilometers
- A GPS + BeiDou receiver for position and time
- A LoRa radio antenna connection
- A built-in cache that speeds up GPS lock after a cold start
What you do with it
Pair this module with a Core and flash Meshtastic to build an off-grid mesh network. Nodes relay each other's messages, so a group can stay in touch across a campsite, a trail, a festival, or a neighborhood with no phones, no SIM cards, and no internet — just the radios. GPS lets each node share its location on the mesh, and the companion app shows where everyone is on a map.

How it connects
Expand modules attach at the back of a Core through Attaky's standard connectors, and a Control module and Power module complete the build. See Frame & Connections for the standard, and Swap a Module when you want to change one.
Good to know
Antenna — attach the LoRa radio's antenna before you transmit. Running the radio without an antenna can damage it over time.
Region & frequency — units ship tuned to 915 MHz for North America. 868 MHz (EU / India) and 433 MHz (EU / China) versions are coming soon. A radio is tuned for one band — match the band to where you are and to the other nodes you want to talk to.
First GPS fix — outdoors with a clear view of the sky, a first fix takes a little while from cold; after that it locks much faster. An onboard cache shortens the cold-start wait.
Size — 66 × 46 × 17.6 mm (200 mm tall with the antenna up).
