Modules
The four module categories — Core, Expand, Control, and Power — and how they combine into a build.
An Attaky is built from modules: small functional boards that snap together on a shared Frame. There are four kinds, and a Complete Build is simply one of each. Pick a Core to run the firmware, an Expand to give it a capability, a Control to add input, and a Power to keep it running — that combination is your device.
Every module connects through Attaky's standard set of connectors, so the same Core works with any Expand, any Control, and any Power. See Frame & Connections for the connector standard, and Swap a Module when you want to change one.
Seven live modules, eight in the works
The seven modules with their own page ship today. The rest are in the works: Breakout Board and Tool Battery Dock are coming soon; the others are planned.
Core — the host
The brain of the build. Core runs the firmware, drives the screen, reads the controls, and talks to every module you attach. Every Attaky is built on exactly one Core.
- Core: RP2040 1.0 — planned
- Core: NRF52 1.0 — planned
Expand — the capability
The module that decides what your device does. An Expand adds a radio, a media kit, or a tuner; pair it with matching firmware and the same Core becomes an off-grid communicator, a retro console, a radio, or a voice assistant.
Expand: FM/AM Radio 1.0
A full FM and AM receiver.
Expand: Media I/O 1.0
microSD storage, a microphone, and a speaker.
Expand: LoRa / GPS 1.0
Long-range LoRa radio with GPS.
- Expand: Breakout Board 1.0 — coming soon (2.54 mm headers for custom wiring)
Control — the input
Extra ways to drive the device beyond Core's built-in keys. A Control module adds a full keyboard or a gamepad, and attaches along an edge of the Frame.
Control: Keyboard (Bottom) 1.0
A full keyboard across the bottom edge.
Control: Gamepad (Bottom) 1.0
A gamepad across the bottom edge.
- Control: Keyboard (Left) 1.0 — planned
- Control: Keyboard (Right) 1.0 — planned
- Control: Gamepad (Left) 1.0 — planned
- Control: Gamepad (Right) 1.0 — planned
Power — the energy
The module that keeps everything running. A Power module supplies the build and sets how long it lasts between charges.
- Power: Tool Battery Dock 1.0 — coming soon
How they combine
A Complete Build is one module from each category: Core + Expand + Control + Power on a shared Frame. The Expand and firmware decide the device's role; the Control and Frame decide its shape. Swap any one of them and you have a different device.
To see ready-made combinations, browse the Series — each one is a complete build with the modules already chosen. To learn how the modules physically connect, see Frame & Connections.
