Radio Pocket 1.0

A handheld FM and AM radio — a color screen, a telescoping antenna, and a built-in speaker, in your pocket.

Radio Pocket 1.0 is a handheld FM and AM radio. It pairs a color screen with a telescoping antenna and a built-in speaker, so you can tune stations and listen anywhere — no phone, no streaming, no account. Flash a radio firmware, extend the antenna, and tune.

It's the portable member of the Radio Series — the same tuner, speaker, and antenna as Radio Station, in a flat handheld you can carry.

What you can do with it

  • Tune and listen to FM and AM stations
  • Hear it through the built-in speaker
  • Extend the telescoping antenna for the best reception
  • Listen anywhere on the battery, with no tether

What's in it

  • Core: ESP32 1.0 — the host: 2.0-inch color touchscreen, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth
  • Expand: FM/AM Radio 1.0 — the FM / AM tuner, with a speaker and a telescoping antenna
  • Power: Standard Cell 1.0 — the rechargeable battery
  • A Pocket Frame that holds the three modules together — they stack module-to-module, no cables

What it's for

Radio Pocket is for listening on the move — a workshop, a kitchen, a backyard, a power outage. It's the one to pick when you want a real radio in your pocket with its own speaker and antenna. Want one that stands on a desk instead? That's Radio Station.

It's built for FM/AM radio: flash a radio firmware, extend the antenna, and tune. FM/AM Radio is one firmware you can run on it — see Firmware for the options.

Bands & reception

The FM/AM Radio module is a software-defined-radio tuner — it samples the signal and demodulates it digitally, for clean audio and accurate tuning across the broadcast bands:

  • FM — 65–108 MHz, covering the OIRT (Eastern European), Japanese, European, and US FM bands
  • AM — long wave (LW), medium wave (MW), and shortwave (SW)
  • FM stereo with RDS / RBDS station text — station name, track info, and more

Reception is analog FM and AM.

Power it on

An Attaky has two power buttons — one on the battery and one on the host (Core). Switch the battery on first, then the Core.

Turn the battery on. The Power module has a power button on its edge — long-press it for about two seconds to switch the battery on.
Turn the Core on. The power button is on the Core's top edge — the third of its four top buttons (L1 · boot · power · R1). Long-press it for about two seconds to turn the device on; long-press again to turn it off.

These are close-ups of the modules — the power buttons are the same on every build.

Set it up

Good to know

FM and AM, with its own speaker. The FM/AM Radio module brings the tuner, a speaker, and a telescoping antenna, so it plays on its own — no headphones or external speaker needed.

Extend the antenna. Pull out the telescoping antenna for the best reception, especially on weaker stations.

Built as a stack. The three modules join module-to-module — the Core in front, the battery behind it, and the FM/AM Radio at the back — all held in one Pocket Frame. No linking cables. The datasheet has the full breakdown.

Keep it dry and cool. It isn't waterproof — keep it away from rain, splashes, and damp. Operating temperature is 0–40 °C (32–104 °F); keep it out of direct sunlight and prolonged heat, and do not leave it in a parked car.

Size — Body 68 × 48 × 32.5 mm (without the antenna). With the telescoping antenna retracted it stands 222.1 mm tall; the antenna extends to 752 mm. It weighs 138.1 g with the antenna (111.1 g without).
